March Food Celebrations 2009

Well, it appears the Kettledrum has come full circle. I hadn't even noticed until I was getting prepared to do this post. I suppose you could say Come To A Kettledrum is celebrating it's Blogoversary! Perhaps, it slipped my mind because last year's March celebration was, well, quite frankly, rather skimpy:) Not this year. The March Celebrations are going to blow you away!

Monthly Food Celebrations

1. March is National Peanut Month
2. The theme for National Nutrition Month® March 2009 is "Eat Right."
3. Frozen Food Month @ Months of Edible Celebrations.
4. Maple Sugar Month in Massachusetts. That's right, March is Time for Maple Syrup and I celebrated last year with some Vermont Maple Syrup recipes.
5. March is National Sauce Month Why not try to make incredible Pan Sauces at Home.
6. National Flour Month
7. March is National Women’s History Month. Celebrates women celebrating food.
8. National Noodle Month @ Gluten Free Living
9. National Vegetarian Month (UK)
10. March is National Celery Month. Although  I, and others have celebrated Celery Month in April also.

Weekly Food Celebrations

Before I get to the daily food celebrations, I want to mention a few weekly food celebrations happening in the month of March. Let's begin with The Great Festa Italiana event happening over at Finding La Dolce Vita. Maryann says: "It's easy to participate. This is what you have to do..."

•Create an Italian dish or drink.
•Post about it on your blog.
•Use our badge and link back to both me and Marie. The links should refer to this announcement post and also to Marie's so others can participate.
•Photograph your dish and send a copy to us. We cannot accept photos that are bigger than 350 pixels wide.
•Now email us at festaitalianadishes@gmail.com
•Send us your name, blog's name and url, the photo of your dish, the name of your dish and the permalink to your post.
That's it! We will be accepting your entries starting today, all the way up to March 9th. We will begin posting your dishes and drinks on March 2nd and after that, will add your entries as they arrive.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie which was invented by Ruth Wakefield, owner of the Toll House Inn near Whitman, Massachusetts. It is the official cookie of the commonwealth. You can see for yourself right here. Some say the first week of March is Chocolate Chip Cookie Week, others say it is the second week of March. You decide. I will tell you, The Famous Amos cookie company also celebrates its beginnings in March for it was in March 1975 (some say the 5th, others the 10th) that Famous Amos opened his first cookie store in California.

The third week of March is American Chocolate Week. You might find some ideas to celebrate American Chocolate Week on the post I did for National Chocolate Milk Powder Day in April of last year. There are some decadent Van Houten Chocolate recipes included from a Van Houten recipe book I shared.

March 15-21, 2009 is National Agriculture Week (National Ag Day is the first day of Spring March 20th!

I'll be back on February 28th with the daily food celebrations. There are LOTS!
